Introduction Menstruation is the regular discharge of blood and mucosal tissue from the inner lining of the uterus through the vagina. It is also known as a period or monthly discharge. The first period usually begins between twelve and fifteen years of age, that point of time known as menarche. Menarche is the most important event in the life of an adolescent girl. Menstruation is generally considered unclean in Indian society. For most girls menarche is a negative, frightening experience, or, at the best, a nuisance, or is something to fear or to be ashamed. Restrictions in daily activities such as not being allowed to take bath, change clothes, comb hair and enter holy places and dietary restrictions during the menstrual period are also imposed. Aims of the study- To evaluate the practice followed by teenagers during menstruation Research Methodology Research Design -Non-experimental research design Settings - KarmaveerBhauraoPatilVidyalay(English medium) in Pratiksha Nagar, Mumbai. Sample size - 60 student’s age group of 13 to 19 years. Result and discussion Following were the major findings of the study: Section 1- Demographic details of subject under study • Maximum girls belong to age group of 13 years. • Majority of girls parents are educated and working. Section 2- Practices followed by teenage girls during menstruation • Majority 90% of girls were using sanitary pad and rest 10% were cloths. • Result shows that 85% girls wrap the pad and throw it in dust bin and rest 15% girls wash it andthen dry. • Majority 60% girls wear jeans and top , 15% girls wear salwar kurta ,18.3% girls wear kurti and leggings, 6.6% girls wear skirt and top during menstruation. • Data reveals that the 38.33% girls prefer to wear specific colour during menstruation and rest 61.66%do not prefer any specific colour. • 50% of girls have restriction on cooking, 35% girls have restriction on playingand rest 15% girls have restriction on sleep separately.
