National Service Scheme

The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a government sponsored public service program conducted by the department of youth affairs and sports of the Government of India. Popularly known as NSS the scheme was launched in 1969.

Motto

The Motto of NSS “Not Me But You”, reflects the essence of democratic living and upholds the need for self-less service. NSS helps the students development & appreciation to other person’s point of view and also show consideration towards other living beings. The philosophy of the NSS is a good doctrine in this motto, which underlines on the belief that the welfare of an individual is ultimately dependent on the welfare of the society as a whole and therefore, the NSS volunteers shall strive for the well-being of the society.

Objectives

  • To understand themselves in relation to their community
  • To identify the needs and problems of the community and involve them in problem-solving
  • To develop among themselves a sense of social and civic responsibility
  • To utilize their knowledge in finding practical solutions to individual and community problems
  • To develop competence required for group-living and sharing of responsibilities
  • To gain skills in mobilizing community participation
  • To acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitudes
  • To develop capacity to meet emergencies and natural disasters
  • To practice national integration and social harmony

Dr. Avani Oke

Dr. Avani Oke working as the Principal of K.J, Somaiya School and College of Nursing since 2014.

Dr Avani Oke has more than 20 years of teaching and about 3 years of clinical experience before climbing her ladder as a Principal.

She started her career as a staff Nurse In Leelabai Thackersey College of Nursing, SNDT Women's University, Mumbai in 1993 and then worked in reputed hospitals like Cumballa and Hinduja Hospital to gain clinical expertise. She has worked in various capacities like Assistant lecturer, Lecturer and Associate Professor in Leelabai Thackersey College of Nursing. She has also worked as Course Coordinator of Critical Care in Lilavati Hospital. Dr Avani Oke has also worked as an Education Coordinator in Kinderd Hospital, New Jersey, USA.

Dr Avani Oke has completed her Masters in Nursing (Child Health Nursing) and PHD from Leelabai Thackersey College of Nursing, SNDT Women's University with First class. She also did Post Graduate Diploma in Education Management from SNDT University, Mumbai with A Grade.

Mrs. Jayashree Salvi

NSS Program Officer

Mrs. Jayashree Salvi is working as the Vice Principal of K.J, Somaiya School and College of Nursing.

She has more than 19 years of teaching and about 2 years of clinical experience. She is a Graduate from Leelabai Thackersey College of Nursing and completed her M.Sc in Community Health Nursing from Bombay Hospital College of Nursing.

She has also been a chairperson, organizing Secretary for various workshops, conferences and seminar. She has published research papers in National and International journals.

Ms. Ms. Teresa Vaz

Mrs Teresa Joaquim Vaz is working in K.J Somaiya School and college of Nursing from August, 2018. She has completed her Basic BSc Nursing from SMES College of Nursing and MBA in Hospital Administration from ICFAI University. She has more than 5 years of teaching experience and 1 yer of clinical experience.

Snehal Ande

Mrs. Snehal Ande is working as Asst. lecturer in K.J Somaiya College of nursing from August, 2016. She has completed her Basic B.Sc Nursing fand Masters in Nursing (Mental Health Nurisng)from Tehmi Grant Institute of Nursing education ,Pune. She has more than 5 years of teaching and about 3 years of clinical experience.

Dr. Asha Pol

Dr. Asha Pol is working as Assistant Professor of Community Medicine of K.J.Somaiya Medical College, Sion, Mumbai since 10 months..I have 16.5 years of teaching experience in Community Medicine subject. Her areas of research interests are Maternal Health, Child Health and Communicable diseases. Her keen interest is in carrying out outreach activities in the community.

Mr Aniket Mahulikar

Mr. Mahulikar has completed his MA in Elementary Education. He has worked with Akanksha Foundation, Mumbai as Network Support Specialist, Curriculum Team Member and School Leader.

He is General Manager of Nareshwadi Learning Centre, and responsible for overseeing the implementation of all activities under NLC and to provide guidance and advice to the Team of these activities.

Dr. Sonali Sangrulkar

Dr. Sonali Sangrulkar is working as Asst. lecturer in K.J Somaiya College of nursing from August, 2016. She has completed her Post Basic B.Sc Nursing from Bharati Vidyapeet , Masters in Nursing (Community Health Nursing )from P.D Hinduja College of Nursing and PHD from JJTU.She has more than 7 years of teaching and about 3 years of clinical experience.
