Dr. Avani Oke

Dr. Avani Oke has been working as the Principal of K.J, Somaiya School and College of Nursing since 2014..

Dr Avani Oke has more than 20 years of teaching and about 3 years of clinical experience before climbing the ladder as a Principal.

She started her career as a staff Nurse In Leelabai Thackersey College of Nursing, SNDT Women's University, Mumbai in 1993 and then worked in reputed hospitals like Cumballa and Hinduja Hospital to gain clinical expertise. She has worked in various capacities like Assistant lecturer, Lecturer and Associate Professor in Leelabai Thackersey College of Nursing. She has also worked as Course Coordinator of Critical Care in Lilavati Hospital. Dr Avani Oke has also worked as an Education Coordinator in Kinderd Hospital, New Jersey, USA.

Dr Avani Oke has completed her Masters in Nursing (Child Health Nursing) and PH.D from Leelabai Thackersey College of Nursing, SNDT Women's University with First class. She also did Post Graduate Diploma in Education Management from SNDT University, Mumbai with A Grade.

She has won Best Teacher Award in 2018 and was honored at the27th TNAI Biennial Conference held at Loni. She also won laurels for the institute and won the Best MQH practice award in February 2018 at the National conference organized by Ramkrishna Bajaj National Quality award trust. The institute was also featured in Top 20 Most promising nursing colleges in Silicon India magazine under her leadership.

Dr Avani Oke has presented papers at State, National and International Conferences. She has also published papers in various newsletters and journals. She is on the TNAI editorial board and is an editor for the journal “International Journal of Nursing and Occupational Health”.

Dr Avani has been a coordinator, chairperson for organizing conferences, workshops and seminars.

Dr. Varsha Phadke

Dr. Varsha Phadke is the Dean and Head of the Department of Pediatrics and Neonatology and In charge of Pediatric Nephrology Unit. She is a recognized postgraduate teacher and guide for M.D. (Pediatrics), Maharashtra University of Health Sciences since 2006.

She has been an Examiner for M.D.(Pediatrics) examination since 2009. She has an excellent academic record. She is a merit holder in SSC examination and completed her M.B.B.S., D.C.H. and M.D.(Pediatrics ) from Seth G.S.Medical College and K.E.M.Hospital.

Dr. Prashant Kumar

Director, Research Promotion

Dr. Prashant Kumar received his Ph.D. in 2009 from the Max Planck Institute for Infection Biology, Department of Molecular Biology, Berlin, Germany.

Following this, Dr. Kumar did his postdoctoral work in the laboratory of Prof. Karl Simin at the Department of Cancer Biology, University of Massachusetts (UMMS) Medical School, Worcester, USA, where he established a novel mouse model of malignant breast cancers. In June 2012, he joined Prof. Jean Paul Thiery’s lab at the Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology (IMCB), A-STAR Singapore. Prof.

Thiery is a world-renowned authority in the area of EMT (Epithelial-Mesenchymal Transition). At A-STAR, Dr. Kumar discovered a panel of urinary biomarkers for early diagnosis of bladder cancer. This marker panel was licensed and is currently being pursued for development of a novel point-of-care (POC) diagnostic platform. He was also involved in the establishment of a culture method to assess circulating tumor cells (CTCs) from breast cancers. This new technique provides an opportunity to analyze CTC clonal heterogeneity and adapt therapeutic modalities in refractory breast cancer patients. He moved to India after securing a highly competitive and prestigious Ramanujan Fellowship awarded by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India (DST) in 2015. He established his laboratory at the Institute of Bioinformatics, Bangalore, India where his lab works on developing reliable methods to isolate and enrich CTCs to advance precision medicine in cancers. Dr. Kumar has been recently awarded the highly prestigious National Award for Excellence in Academic Clinical Research 2021 from Indian Society for Clinical Research (ISCR) as a recognition for excellence in Academic Clinical Research.
